“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.”  –Thich Nhat Hanh

My Self Description:

  • I  am a nurturer.
  • I am uncomfortable accepting praise and will usually deflect it to praise someone else.
  • It is hard for me to say no and will usually do whatever it takes to make things happen for other people when asked.
  • I am over-apologetic even when it is not necessary or not my fault.

When I say that I need to love myself, I’m not implying to be the prideful, worldly type of loving oneself, I’m talking about an idea of being grateful and appreciating the person who God made. The worldly type of loving myself is where I am not prideful and arrogant. Since I am and have been surrounded with and was brought up in a family of a long list of narcissists who always blames others for their actions, I was overcompensating by going the opposite direction. The type of loving myself I am talking about is based upon humility and thankfulness. The two could not be more different!

Here are some things I am working on and am learning.  Do you see yourself in this?

  • The amount of bondage from not loving myself was affecting me both emotionally and physically.
  • Low self esteem is not being happy with the person that God made in you.
  • I was considering myself as a homely and voiceless person even though others told me differently.
  • I could not let myself forgive for the things I had done in the past that were embarrassing or even for my social awkwardness.
  • I am always defeated regardless of how hard I try. I continue to push to reach impossible ambitions just to feel like I am worthy of being here.

I have purposed in my heart that I am going to begin to love the person that God created. God created my body, my mind, my emotions, intellect. What I put into my mind and heart is what people will see. God did not intend for me to see myself as I was viewing myself. In Genesis 1:26 It says, “Let us make man in our image….” God’s image is beautiful and that is how He wants me to view myself.

I will continue to work on this…..And believe that God knew exactly what He was doing when HE created me!

“Self esteem is just a belief. It takes as much effort to believe you have low self esteem as it does to believe you have high self esteem. All you need to do when experiencing low self esteem is to change your belief about yourself. Remember that no one can give or take away your self esteem.”

I sat next to a white wall decorated with neon alphabet letters and tried to explain the problem with my daughter. When I was done the pediatrician leaned back a little and wrinkled her nose. She frankly looked a little repulsed.

“Hold on,” she said. “Let me get the behavioral therapist.”

It wasn’t always like this. After my boy-girl twins were born, I often received compliments on how happy my babies seemed. After about eight months of age, my son stayed the same chill little guy. But in my daughter, I saw a change. At first I thought she must have a slightly more volatile temperament, and that it was only now beginning to show. But after she was a year old, it became apparent that I was dealing with something a little more serious. The slightest thing could set my daughter off—or nothing at all. And when she got upset, it wasn’t like a normal toddler getting upset. She was hysterical. It was like someone had lit her on fire. She screamed, and kept screaming, as though in mortal agony, for as long as two hours at a time. (more…)

While thinking about the story of Joseph and most,  whether in church or not relate to ‘Joseph and the Coat of Many Colors.”  You can click  on the link below and read the details of his life but my thoughts were going in a different direction.  One thing I did find interesting about the story of Joseph is the essential story is the same in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. There are differences in details. (more…)

mustardseedbudget.wordpress.comThis one photo spoke to me and all I could say was, “WOW!”  I thought of sexual abuse in the ministry which seems to have been prevalent recently.  Not that it is a new subject; it is finally being talked about.

Then my mind went to another passion of mine; human trafficking.

What a powerful photo!

I saw the picture on this blog.

postHave you ever felt like you’re in a situation and you’re fighting for ….well just survival?  It seems that everything around us is either attacking us or is going to absolutely destroy our family.  Our friends, our neighbors our churches, everywhere we turn there is a battle going on.

Satan knows exactly where to attack us to cause the most harm to our spiritual being.  It may be slander, temptation, our marriage, mentally, finances…we could name many things.  BUT BUT BUT!!!

Regardless of what attack we are faced with – Our Name is FOREVER written in the Palm of HIS Hand!  And we’re Protected There!!

Pumpkin Cheesecake I do know after eating this at a friend’s house, there is NO comparison to a no bake cheese cake and a baked cheese cake! The baked version is thick and creamy in texture, with lightness to it. It’s like eating a pumpkin pie and cheesecake together. (more…)

I absolutely LOVED this post. If I were to add to it, it would take away from it.

We Ditched The Time Out Chair For A Mercy Seat.

legmanWe had the privilege of meeting an amazing young man yesterday. His spirit was so contagious!  His smile was huge but you couldn’t help but notice he didn’t have ANY teeth.  The huge twinkle in his eye totally out shined his lose of teeth!   What you could not ignore was his plastic leg laying beside him on the ground with his screwdriver in the ground beside it.  He had lost his leg a few years back due to a blood disease like our son Ben has.  He has to take off his leg to crawl under the trailer to work sometimes. When he comes out from under the trailer he will put it back on. He said, “I have to work, I have 4 daughters 2-16 yrs. old and their mother left us. I don’t received any government assistance and they are my responsibility.”

IMAG2154-1Our son Ben too has a blood disease that suddenly left him disabled without any warning at the age of 28.  This post is not about Ben but about how in the midst of *our* miracle God brought a young man in our life.

At one point I heard him tell the boss, “Hang on! My leg is hurting!” Then he told us how it stayed infected all the time and he couldn’t get rid of the infection. He said he had to work to provide for his family. There isn’t anyone else but me to take care of my girls!  He had been on Medicaid at one time but he couldn’t find a Medicaid Dr. that really seemed concerned about his infection. My heart broke as I listened to him talk!  But then I couldn’t help but be encouraged at his amazing strength to do what he had to do to provide for the ones he loved!
I will post later how God supplied this double wide trailer for our Ben to live right next to us on our property so I could help in his care.  You talk about an absolute miracle straight out of heaven – IT WAS!!

At this time, I wanted to share with you about this man. Our prayer is that God will bless this man abundantly as he has sure blessed our family by being in our life today!

Will you please pray with us for his family?

P.S. He knew I was taking his picture and was going to write about him.  He said, “If I can be an encouragement to someone, then it’s ok!”

fried chickenThis chicken is CRAZY Good!! The coating is crunchy but the meat is tender! Oh my the flavor is so good!

There are no eggs and you can go dairy or non-dairy.  The mixture is thick and holds the breading very well.  The added hot sauce gives it that extra kick!

Moms-Meatloaf1 The use of maple syrup and balsamic vinegar gives this meatloaf such a good flavor.  The recipe includes a Maple Glaze for the top but I have never used it.  I basically put together quick and easy recipes.  All of my GF  recipes are being created with one person in mind!  I guess since they are a no nonsense comfort kind of food they have just caught on!  Just plain and simple!
