Have you ever noticed that when you get bogged down with things of the world or just depressed with what is going in our lives we’re frequently told by someone to “Count Your Blessings.” That is an excellent old song and great advice if you have the motivation to do so! I do believe that gratefulness is what restores and can help heal our heart. But I know there are times that we simply do not even have the strength to count the blessings.
God promised Abraham that if he would take leap of faith then He would in return offer Him a great blessing. Really wouldn’t we expect God to do that? But yet, I’ve often wondered how Abraham in his human state could have so willing taken that leap of faith. But the Bible offers no indication that Abraham ever doubted God. Wow! I can not even imagine being put in that position.
Ok, so God really never did intend for Abraham to go through with the sacrifice of his son, Isaac. Yes, He was testing Abraham’s willingness to obey Him. And because Abraham did obey, God blessed him so that he could in turn pass that blessing on to others.
“Count Your Many Blessings Name Them One By One”… without sharing the blessings we have been given, it would be the same as being selfish with God’s Blessings. If we participate in the blessings of God then we need to share our blessings from God. They are His reward for our faithfulness! I do believe being faithful to God is sharing with others the reward of His blessings. If we start keeping our blessings to our self then could it be possible that His blessings could be minimized?
